Microsoft Introduces Business Productivity Online Suite (BPOS)

Microsoft is entering the Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) sector with its Business Productivity Online Suite (BPOS), $14 per-user per-month set of web-based tools. BPOS includes Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Office Communications Online and Office Live Meeting.
The primary focus of BPOS is document exchange at the enterprise level, geared towards reducing existing costs by eliminating the need for in-house systems (such as MS Exchange Servers) to host Microsoft applications. If you view the online demo, you'll find this to be the case. Users can access all Microsoft tools on-line for a set monthly fee. This will provide competition for Google (Google Docs), IBM (Lotus Quickr) and realtime tools such as gotomymeeting.com and webX. Microsoft's new offering also affirms the trend to a growing number of SaaS applications, as opposed to in-house systems and applications.
BPOS, though flexible, is not geared at the simple/easy-to-use, non-realtime project management/collaboration market.
